TDSB features their very Own

Soapbox Revolutionaries!

A lot of happenings have been going down inside the TDSB fam lately. Antonio "Paz1" Appling was exploring for 5 weeks, jet setting the southern hemisphere between Argentina and Brazil and back to his home of San Diego. Along with keeping up with the global travels, TDSB added a new family member and the talents of Miss Kasi TeYana Yates, to head up our theatrical endeavors!

In honor of the return of TDSB's fearless leader, Paz1, and to honor the newest member of the TDSB fam, the executive decision was made to feature this spoken word duo for an epic evening of new talent from familiar voices.

Paz1 brought back a clean and compelling array of new works inspired by adventures and discoveries from his time spent abroad. KasiTeYana brought a line up moved by a confidence in self beauty and family values. These two brought their best to the mic in our very own front-room style open mic to share and inspire the family and friends of TDSB.

TDSB featuring Alyssa Eddolls

Soapbox Revolutionaries!

TDSB has been sharing the mic with some pretty awesome poets and singers in the past weeks. Even though TDSB has grown and changed over the past couple of years we never forget where we started. Our foundations were in the local artists of Long Beach.

Alyssa Eddolls is the personification of the local Long Beach musical scene. Alyssa helps out our local vets at the VA Long Beach Medical Center, is a member of the worship team at Freedom Church in Long Beach and she is an all-around talented singer, song writer, and guitarist.

Alyssa started the trend back to our roots, the trend that got us to where we are today. Props to Alyssa and all the local talent that the LBC has to offer. With that said check out Alyssa at local venues around Long Beach and southern CA. Keep doing what your doing at sharing your talents!

TDSB Features 2011 Brass Knuckles LA Slam Team

Summer time Soapbox Revolutionaries!!!

Summer and all it's fun is upon us, and the excitement does not stop at TDSB, continuing to be immersed in the intense poetic aptitudes of southern CA. This past soapbox we featured the talents of the 2011 Brass Knuckles LA Slam Team. The entire team came out and shared their individual styles for the audience at Royal Cup. When I say individual styles I am not entirely sure if that even gives enough credit towards the individual declarative genius' that filled the room on June 24, 2011 as Brass Knuckles totally blew the TDSB crowd out of their seats simply by the words that were spoken.

The 2011 Brass Knuckles LA Slam Team is comprised of the vocal stylings of Judy Holiday , Madison DiNapoli, Ashley Catharine, E. Amato, and Mr. Poetic under the brilliance of Nikki Blak and Judy Holiday. We even got a special treat when Nikki Blak came up to the mic to share a few special words with us all!

The coolest part about the night was definitely when the entire team got SP!T on! Yes folks, the entire team was SP!T on! Big Brother's SP!T Tag was present that night as it is most TDSB gatherings and Brass Knuckles neither shied away nor turned up their noses but wholly embraced the opportunity to get back to the roots of all poets and just share words and a good time with friends new and old.

A huge thanks goes out to all the members of the 2011 Brass Knuckles LA Slam Team for sharing your amazing words and gifts with all of us. We wish you all the best as your profound lyrical journey continue this year! Make LA proud!

Much love, TeamDSB

TDSB featuring Nick Macedo

Soapbox Revolutionaries,
TDSB is back this week with a dope offering of poetic and lyrical rotundness. That's "round" and "fat" for the non English speakers. We are pleased to present Nick Macedo as our Featured Artist. Nick is fresh off a selection to Da Poetry Lounge's Slam Team and is taking this year hostage.

http://dippoetry.dipdive.com/ You all know I don't do hype. I say let the po' (poetry) speak for itself. Is this SPOKEN word or not? In homage to YouthSpeaks www.youthspeaks.org and the homie James Kass, "the next generation can speak for itself." Below are links to Nick's work off of youtube. Nick has the ability to communicate exuberance without the volume and intensity watering down the wordage.

Also, we have a special Guest Host, the most hustling in the game, the Diva herself H to the U-S-T-L-E. Charlene "Hustle Diva" Green http://hustledivaspeaks.com/default.aspx is holding down the ceremony mastering this installment of TDSB.

We can't give you a better offering then that, fresh poet, ill host, best audience in the biz. Remember, TDSB might just love you more than you love it.

Paz,

- TeamDSB

TDSB May 27, 2011

Soapbox Revolutionaries,

I apologize for the lag time in the post. The last TDSB was awesome (I will only use that word once per post, I promise). We were smaller in size but rich on talent and entertainment. The "Uncultivated Rabbits" did there thing. "ForWord" was in the house spreading some additional love and promoting their upcoming features in Los Angeles County. People got "Soaped", which is when someone calls you up on the mic to recite one of your own poems or songs without any forewarning. "V Rabbit" (Victoria) and "Big Brother/Biggs" (Tim Cheung) were amongst the first to ever get "Soaped" earlier in the month. The night had an arsenal of young talent and impressive "sharing." I even busted a surprise Feature for the Soapbox Revolutionaries as a tip of the hat to the people before I peace to Argentina for my yearly, "Artistic Journey: Self discovery of Art through deeper seeking of God." I just made that up but its basically the idea.

Holy stage productions Batman...TDSB is putting on a Spoken Word/Theater production called, "Freedom is a Voice", which is taken from the closing poem that I do at the end of the open mic. Details will follow about this. What you need to know right now is that Auditions are coming up in a month. Check out the Fan Page for more information http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=113641172057235. We are featuring 6 Poets, 2 Dancers, and 2 Musicians. So if you are interested go to the site and set up an interview with Kasi. It's a paid gig... but more importantly it is a ministry to the community via art.

The night finished with a healthy dose of people getting "SPAT" on after hours. This is not what you think...this is (the ever inventive) Biggs version of tag, only with poetry and song. You get a card and you get to "spit" on people. They in turn have to spit a verse, a poem, a song on the spot, recorded onto video. It's crazy and ill. Check the link for videos http://www.youtube.com/user/BigBrothaaa. Some cats even recited a Rudy Franciso poem off the dome, bananners folks! I hit up Rudy and he was pretty impressed.

Well stay tuned for more information about the TDSB and you can check us out on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and whatever else is out to keep us from interacting face-to-face (insert half joking smiley icon).

I'm off  to Buenos Aires!

Check for your guest host's Hustle Diva on the 10th and DeAntwann Johnson on the 24th.

Paz,

Antonio (PAZ1)

One of the best voices in Long Beach Jesse Medina
Brandon Anthony Melendez killing it with a poem about Hip Hop.
Doug Button a new transplant to TDSB
Miss "V. Rabbit", a lady of the mic.
Miguel Mendoza breaking our heart with the a poem about love unrequited.
The SP!T festivities after were banana's.
